Siri Shows Limitations Outside of The US

1

While everyone is having a great time playing around with their new iPhone 4S, and Siri being the big talk of the town, users outside of the United States shortly realized that Siri isn’t so great as it is in the US.

Several websites and other sources have reported that the Yelp integration for local businesses would not be available outside of the US immediately after release. Although Siri is still in it’s beta stage, nobody outside of the US knew that there would limitations in Siri.

Apple did add this hardly noticeable text at the bottom of their website.

Siri is available in Beta only on iPhone 4S and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply.

Apparently, when asking Siri for Maps information in the UK, Siri replies with “I can only look for businesses, maps, and traffic in the United States, and when you’re using U.S English. Sorry about that.”

Also, Siri can’t even determine the time outside of the US! Check out the response (below) Siri gives after asking”What time is it?”

Fortunately, Apple has stated that they are working on bringing local search and maps available to other countries in 2012.
